Sustainability

IS IN OUR DNA

REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT BEFORE THERE WAS A CARBON FOOTPRINT.

The Earth offers us so much, we believe it’s important to give back what we take. To honor this place we call home, and play as much a part of the solution to climate change as we are the problem, Solo New York has always worked to do business with conscience, heart, and care for the world we share.

40,000,000 BOTTLES BY 2024

We're constantly evolving our sustainability practices to create a positive environmental impact. That’s why we’re giving plastic bottles a second life as sustainable bags. Our mission is to recycle 40,000,000 plastic bottles from landfills by 2024.

A BRIGHT DECISION

Solar Energy is the cleanest, most abundant source of renewable energy in the world, and with 224 sunny days on average in New York, that’s a lot of power. At our Long Island headquarters, Solo New York has 1400 solar panels installed - enough to power 87 homes!

BOTTLE IT UP

Today, humans are buying a million plastic bottles per minute, and it’s estimated that over half a trillion plastic bottles will be sold in 2020. To do our part in reducing that number our smart fountains have put us on track to save 6,000 plus bottles a year.

BOTTLE PROHIBITION ACT

To add to our commitment to reduce plastic waste, we also have a zero tolerance plastic water bottle policy.

TOTALLY LIT

LED lights can cut energy consumption by 70-80% when compared to conventional lighting and last up to 25% longer, so fully installing our HQ with energy efficient LEDS was a no-brainer (saving additional brain power as well!).

CORRUGATED RECYCLING PROGRAM

Corrugated recycling is a key player in decreasing solid waste in landfills. 93% of corrugated products produced in 2016 were able to be recovered to recycle, and can be used by paper mills and manufacturers of new corrugated materials.

SUSTAINABLE SOURCING

Our catalogs are printed on paper containing 30% post-consumer fiber, is manufactured using renewable energy - Biogas and is elemental chlorine free. It is FSC® and Rainforest AllianceTM certified.

RE:CYCLED COLLECTION

It all starts with discarded plastic bottles. Through an environmentally-friendly process, those plastic bottles get transformed into a high quality and lightweight Recycled PET Polyester yarn. This process uses 50% less energy, 20% less water, and 60% less air pollution.

The end result? Giving plastic bottles a second life as sustainable bags that don't compromise style.

WE LOVE TREES

We have partnered with the National Forest Foundation to help restore our nation's forests. With our eco friendly bags sold from our Re:cycled Collection, we are planting trees to help reforest U.S. National Forests.

TAKE THE PLEDGE

For the next 30 days, join our efforts by saying no to plastic bottles. By taking the No-Plastic Pledge, you'll be joining the movement against plastic bottle pollution.

For every pledge we get, we’ll plant a tree in your name through the National Forest Foundation.

AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS

Today, consumers demand corporate social responsibility. People expect brands and businesses to live out their values and implement systems that protect the environment or foster social justice. Our Re:cycled collection represents a shift to more mindful consumption, one that has been gaining momentum in the past few years.
